Jetty Park at Port Canaveral

If you are looking for an enjoyable day trip to the beach then Jetty Park (Atlantic Coast) at Port Canaveral is easy to reach following the route to Port Canaveral. It is also a great place to view any of the Shuttle Launches from Canaveral/Kennedy

Arriving in the area of the Port it is difficult to imagine that eventually you will find yourself in the Park as all the roads around it are industrial. But once inside the gates, the views change totally and it is a pleasant drive to the main Car Park etc.There are also spaces for R.V. vehicles for anyone wishing to stay over and whilst we were there it was obviously a popular place to park up for the night (or more).

There is a very good fast food bar inside the Pavilion , and although we took our own picnic that we must say the aroma from the “proper “ burgers was just too much so we had those as well!! They were excellent and the deep fried onion rings were “to die for “.Several places to park but we chose the first car park we came to, near the Pavilion and facilities and a boardwalk adjacent to the car park made it very easy to take our things onto the sandy beach.Facilities are very good and the day we visited the Restrooms were very clean and tidy.

Familiarising ourselves with the area (and on that day the best view point to see the shuttle launch) we went on “walkabout”. A fantastic long jetty is a nice walk, lots of people fishing from it. The first two thirds are like a boardwalk only 4 feet off the jetty. The last third of the pier is a steel raised pier about 20 feet off the jetty water. Different birds all around and the most amazing amount of Pelicans on all the rocks either side of the jetty. If you are lucky (and we were) Dolphins are often seen playing out at sea.

Coming back along the Jetty and walking to the other area of the Park where a Deep wide open channel allows the large Royal Caribbean Cruise Liners to depart from their Dock and travel out to sea. We did not see any that day as we had to leave around 4 p.m. and the ships were due to sail through at around 5.30 p.m.
